Welcome to the All Saints', Hertford website.

We hope you enjoy your visit and look forward to seeing you in person at one of our regular or special services or at one of our many concerts. We are known for the quality of our music, the preaching and the friendly welcome! All Saints' is usually open on Wednesdays between 12:00 and 2.30 pm (Concert 1.00-1.45) and Saturdays between 10:00 am and 2.00 pm if you would like to drop in.

This pattern changes slightly at special times of the year, such as Christmas and Easter. The Fourth Sunday evening service cycles between a Service of Healing, a Taizé Service and a Praise Service. You can check which in our diary. Full details of all services, current and historic, are available in the service lists.

Holy Communion is also celebrated on Thursdays at 11:00 am.

Junior Church meets in St John's Hall on the Second, Fourth and Fifth Sundays. There is a crèche in the meeting room at the back of church, along with (supervised) activities for younger children. On the First Sunday we all come to the Family Service at 10.00 a.m. which is a shorter service with special activities for children. Similarly the Family Eucharist on the Third Sunday is designed with children in mind.

Members of our adult choir sing evening services by candlelight each Wednesday at 7:15 pm. during term-time. (Choral Evensong on first, and Compline on the rest).

There is a special service for the under fives, along with their mum, dad, grandparents or carer, Prayers and Bears, on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:30 am.. The service lasts approx 20 minutes and is followed by time for coffee, a chat and play.

Holy Baptism (Christening)

We are delighted to be able to arrange this service with families and this can be either as a special service of baptism or within one of our 10.00 services with all of our congregation to welcome you. Please contact Kay on 01992 587125. Every child who is born in the parish is entitled to be baptised at All Saints.

Weddings

As we have such a great musical tradition, a large peal of bells, and a magnificent building, All Saints is an ideal place for weddings. Please contact Jo ( 01992 584 899) for further details.

What we stand for

When we first join the church family at baptism we declare our belief and trust in:

God the Father, the source of all being and life.
God the Son, who was human like us, died for us and rose again.

As well as our regular concerts, we have a number of special events over the coming weeks including:

The Autumn Season of Soundbites begins on Wednesday 8th September at 1.00 pm when Jessie Ridley Violin Oliver Ray 'Cello and Ian Ray Piano play music for Piano Trio by Shostakovich and Mozart.
Our choir sing Compline on Wednesday 8th September at 7:15 p.m.
There will be a Coffee Morning in church from 10:00 am to 12 noon on Saturday 11th September.
Later that day our Nature Group will be hunting for rare moths in our churchyard.
We will be holding another Quiz Night on Saturday 18th September - tickets from Dorothy or Andrew.
The newly consecrated Bishop of Hertford, Paul Bayes, will join us at our Parish Communion on Sunday 26th September and for lunch afterwards.
Our next Messy Church will be on Sunday 26th September at 4:00 p.m.
The next All the Family Service will be on 3rd October at 10:00 am and will be our Harvest Festival.
Our next Prayers and Bears Service will be at 10.30 am on 5th October with the theme Harvest Fruits - Scouts visit the Promised Land; do join us, with or without Teddy!

Our Art Group meets on Thursday evenings 7:30-9:30 p.m - outside as the weather allows. More information here.
The regular series of meetings of the Mothers' Union continues throughout the year.

About us

All Saints' ministers to the people living in the south side of Hertford and to a fair number from wider afield who choose to worship with us. In total we have some 300 active members. We encourage a thoughful approach to the Christian faith based on a sound knowledge of the Bible. We are a friendly church where all are welcome and Holy Communion is celebrated each Sunday.

All Saints' is also the civic church of the Town and County and hosts a number of special services for them each year. The church itself was built in 1895 replacing an earlier building destroyed by fire in 1892. We have a number of regular groups which meet throughout the month. Music and concerts

We are fortunate in having a strong and long established musical tradition. Our choir is one of the finest in the home counties and we have recently restored our 'Father' Willis organ. We enjoy a regular series of: Wednesday lunchtime and Saturday concerts given by local and internationally known musicians. We are also fortunate to have been able to establish Choral Scholarships in conjunction with the University of Hertfordshire

How to find us

Like most churches we don't have a postal address. The nearest postcode is our vicarage which is SG13 8AE, this is on Churchfields just east of the churchyard. The church itself is situated alongside Gascoyne Way with road access off Queen Street. It can be found on Google maps here. St John's Hall is just to the East (left) of the church and has its own Google maps entry here.

Gascoyne Way is the A414, running from the A10 in the East to the M1 in the West via the A1(M) at Hatfield. All Saints' Church is a large red sandstone building, with a large tower, just south of Gascoyne Way (marked with a + on the map linked below). Turn off the A414 at the roundabout to the west of the church, turn left immediately into Hale Road, left again into Queens Road, turn right at the end and pass though the gates into the church car park. Alternative parking is available in the multi-storey car-park directly opposite the church - accessed via a slip road off the eastbound carriageway of the A414. Pedestrian access to the church is via Fore Street, Church Street (alongside the Salisbury Arms) and then via an underpass directly to the gates of the churchyard.
