These Choral Scholarship are awarded in conjunction with the University of Hertfordshire. Information on their courses and admission policy etc can be found at their website here. Scholarships run for one academic year and are renewable (usually for up to three years) by mutual agreement.

Our first Choral Scholar, Daniel Antrobus, began in 2004, graduating with first class honours in 2007. Two more, Samantha Hall and Peter Jinks, began in 2005. A fourth, Hannah McCarthy began in 2007. We are now looking for a suitable scholar to begin Autumn 2008.

Adult Rehearsals are from 7:50 pm to 9:30 pm on Fridays, and before services on Sundays from 9:30 am and from 5:45 pm. The service pattern is as follows:

Both include a 'choir only' anthem. Parish Eucharists begin with a sung introit. Midweek services are usually 8.00 pm with a rehearsal from 7.00 pm.

You can find the current music lists here.

For the main festivals the choir also prepares and sings major liturgical works. In recent years these have included Messiah Handel, St John and St Matthew Passions J.S.Bach as well as Requiems by Duruflé, Fauré, Howells and Mozart with orchestra as appropriate.

The choir undertakes a week-long cathedral visit (Lichfield 2002, Chichester 2003, Wells 2004, Chester 2005, Bristol 2006, Chester 2007, Wells 2008, Bristol 2009). Attendance at this is optional.

Since January 2006, the adults have sung a mid-week service, now every Wednesday (usually Choral Evensong on First and Compline on Second, Third, Fourth and Fifith). Again attendance at this is optional, but encouraged!
