Scope of Scholarship

Duties include all 'normal' rehearsals and services at All Saints' during term-time plus attendance up to the Sunday before Christmas (Service of Lessons and Carols), Easter (when appropriate, given University terms) and up to three occasional midweek services (eg Ash Wednesday).

Adult Rehearsals are from 7:50 pm to 9:30 pm on Fridays, and before services on Sundays from 9:30 am and from 5:45 pm. The service pattern is as follows:

Choral services usually include a setting of the canticles/communion sung by the choir alone. Sung services usually include a congregation setting (or the use of chants as appropriate). Both include a 'choir only' anthem. Parish Eucharists begin with a sung introit. Midweek services are usually 8.00 pm with a rehearsal from 7.00 pm.

You can find the current music lists here.

For the main festivals the choir also prepares and sings major liturgical works. In recent years these have included Messiah Handel, St John and St Matthew Passions J.S.Bach as well as Requiems by Duruflé, Fauré, Howells and Mozart with orchestra as appropriate.

Since January 2006, the adults have sung a mid-week service, now every Wednesday (usually Choral Evensong on First and Compline on Second, Third, Fourth and Fifith). Again attendance at this is optional, but encouraged!
