GreenWatch

What is it?

GreenWatch is our overall title for our care for the community. There are thre strands, each described below.

Firstly, a regular series of free talks on environmental themes, usually on the second Saturday of the month. Coffee is served from 11.30 with light lunches at 12.00 noon and talk at 13.00. Information on upcoming talks is given below.

Secondly, we usually hold an GreenWatch Activity Day in mid July (18th in 2026) aimed at families.

Thirdly, we hold an annual Environment Day on the second Saturday of September, timed to coincide with the Beds and Herts Historic Church Trust Bike and Hike and National Heritage Open Days.

    Talk Bees Simon Rice

Simon has kept and managed honey bees for over fifty years, starting back in the seventies with his dad, when keeping bees was considered a little odd.

He became a master beekeeper in 2022, following ten years of examinations and practical assessments and is now spending his retirement managing his colonies of bees and supporting novice beekeepers with their steep learning curve. Swarm collecting during the summer months has taught him there is a big knowledge gap amongst the public about honey bees and other pollinators, but also the impact climate change and globalisation is having on these vital insects.

This has been a driving factor in preparing this talk.
